Know how long your lab’s funding lasts.

Caprix brings grants, personnel costs, and spending into one view for each lab. PIs and lab administrators can see runway, coverage gaps, and pending decisions in one place instead of across several spreadsheets.

Caprix is available by invitation. If your lab already uses it, ask your lab administrator for access.

Illustrative example with sample figures

Lab finances rarely live in one place.

In most labs, the answer to “can we afford this hire?” is spread across award spreadsheets, effort reports, and department statements that don’t quite agree. Putting them together takes time, and problems such as an award ending or a month of unfunded salary tend to show up late.

Sharing that picture is a separate problem. Collaborators and investors need context, but individual salary and fringe details shouldn’t be shared with them.

What the dashboard shows

Each lab gets one dashboard that combines funding, personnel, and spending. It is designed for the planning questions a PI actually faces: hiring, extending an appointment, or bridging to a renewal.

Runway and funding gaps
Projected months of runway based on current burn, including the month a funding gap is expected to begin.
Monthly burn
Salary costs plus recent non-salary spending, shown as one monthly figure the lab can plan against.
Funds, commitments, and spend
Funds remaining, net available after commitments, allocated budget, and recorded spend for active and projected awards.
Personnel coverage
Required, funded, and unfunded salary coverage month by month for the next twelve months.
Grant expiry insights
Active grants ending in the next 90 days, with the balance left on each one.
Decision queue
Open alerts grouped by severity, so the most urgent decisions come first.

Access follows the role

Access is set by organization, lab, and role. Investor and viewer roles do not see salary or fringe details by default, and projections based on salary are hidden from them as well.

Principal investigators
Check runway, coverage, and upcoming grant expirations before committing to a hire or a new project.
Lab administrators
Maintain lab details, invite members, and manage what each person can access.
Delegated decision makers
Take on day-to-day financial decisions for a PI with the context needed to act.
Investors and viewers
Follow funding and operational status without seeing individual compensation.

Accounts and data protection

Role-scoped visibility
Salary visibility is set by role, not left to each person to manage.
Passkeys and passwords
Sign in with a passkey or a password, with account recovery through verified email.
Organizations with many labs
Switch between the labs you belong to. Each keeps its own data and membership.
Invitation-based access
People join through an organization invitation that assigns their role.

Getting started

  1. Set up your organization

Create the organization and its labs during guided onboarding.

  2. Invite the team

Add PIs, administrators, delegates, and viewers, each with the right role.

  3. Bring in funding and people

Add awards, personnel, and allocations so the forecast is based on the lab’s actual commitments.

  4. Review runway and decisions

Check the dashboard for runway, coverage gaps, and decisions that need an owner.

Cappy, a planning assistant

In development

Cappy will answer what-if questions, such as “what happens if we extend this postdoc by six months?”, using the lab’s own data. It will propose changes only; people make the decisions.

Before a proposed change is saved:

  1. It is validated against the lab’s current data.
  2. A person explicitly confirms it.
  3. It is saved as a single transaction and recorded in an audit log.
  4. The lab forecast is recalculated.

Questions

Who is Caprix for?

Academic research labs and the people who run them: principal investigators, lab administrators, delegated decision makers, and stakeholders who need visibility without access to personnel details.

Who can see salary information?

Only roles permitted to see it. Investor and viewer roles do not see salary or fringe details by default, and salary-based projections such as runway and burn are hidden from them.

Does Caprix replace my institution’s accounting system?

No. Caprix is for planning and forecasting at the lab level. Your institution’s financial system remains the official record.

How do I get access?

Caprix accounts are organized by institution and lab. If your lab already uses Caprix, ask its administrator for an invitation. Then sign in with a password or a passkey.
